This is a suggestion I've wanted to voice for a while now but just now decided to post here.
What I would like to see is the addition of Year as a filter for adding new vehicles, so that selecting Make only shows Models for that make, and selecting a Model would only show Years available for that make/model. On the admin side, each Model on the "Manage Models" page would be clickable the same way Makes are clickable when looking at the "Manage Makes" page. This would lead to a "Manage Years" page, where each Model could have years added to it. The feature could still be turned off using the "Enter Make/Model Names" setting.
Bonus: I would also like to be able to add a custom field as a filter, which would by default be last in line after Make, Model, and Year. (as I imagine implementing it in any other order would require too much reworking of existing code)
For instance, selecting a Make would show Models for that make, selecting a Model would only show the Year that model was available, and selecting a Year would only show <custom field> for that particular Make, Model, and Year. <custom field> could be available colors, trim levels, engine types, etc. for that Make/Model/Year.
If a custom field is possible, then on the admin side the Years on "Manage Years" would be clickable and would take the admin to a "Manage <custom field>" page. This could theoretically keep drilling down further and further until there is nothing of merit left to filter. The main reason I'm interested in at least one custom filterable field is because I want to add available Engine Type per make/model/year to my own garage.
Would this be possible by copying the code that makes Model dependent on Make over to the Year field? Easy enough or a coding nightmare?
