Video System Suggestions

1- At the moment the "description" for a video which shows on the video page has no character limit on how many words to show. So if a description is very large for instance, then the "video details" box will simply stretch to accommodate the lengthy description. It would be good if it had a character limit and only showed a portion of the description initially, with the option to "view more" and for the rest to then be displayed.

 

2- On the video system index, the page which displays the video categories, as with the forum index it shows you which categories contain new content. But there is no option, unlike the forum index, to mark a category as read, the only way to change the category as read/no new is to open every video within.

1. Nice idea, IPB3 actually has a function for this. This will be included next version, if possible I'll include in a bug fixing version.

2. Like the main page, you just click on the category icon, that marks it as read. Or you can do so through the view new content page.

Another suggestion from a new user of the Video System...

It would be nice if in the approval process when the Video is 'Rejected' if we could send a short PM to the user with the reason why it was rejected.

That is a nice feature Michael McCune put in his Tutorial mod - really much better to tell the user and much better than just deleting their submission.

 

Other than that it works just a well as I expected from Defuse :thumbsup:

As for #2, that's how I thought the functionality would work, but nothing happens when you click the category icons in the video system, the cursor doesn't even change to imply the functionality is there. This applies to my site and the demo on devfuse, maybe a bug rather than a feature request then :wink:

 

The html source would suggest the functionality is there for the forums, but not so for the video system, which is why I originally thought it wasn't a bug.

Thas was the intended way, I do remember coding this function, I can't explain why it wasn't added. I've added this to the bug tracker and will get a fix out next bug fixing round.

is there any way to change the submitters author? I know you can set it to where the person who submits it is listed or a ID of 1 person is listed. I was wondering if you could edit the author after it has been submited -

 

Also wondering if there is any way to include a banner like google ads on the video pages

It's not a feature of the Videos System but you could run a mysql query in Admin CP > Support Tab > SQL Toolbox

 

UPDATE ibf_videos SET author_id='#' WHERE author_id='&'

 

Replace # with the new submitter and & with the current submitter id. Remove the ibf_ prefix if your database doesn't use it. You'll need to also rebuild the category cache to get the new author name.

 

Where exactly did you want to include it? Most places can be covered with a quick template edit.
