IPB3 Upgrade Policy

This policy is now official, thank you to all those who offered feedback and suggestions.

<strike>As IPB3 final approaches I wanted to get some feedback from customers on our IPB3 upgrade policy. If you prefer to leave feedback privately, feel free to send me a personal message instead.</strike>

The current plan is for the upgrade policy to be progressively changed. So you have the opportunity to decide whether to not to switch to IPB3 or just stick with IPB2.3. This policy is not set in stone and I appreciate any feedback offered. Dates and time frames will be changed if demand for IPB3 is slow. The following steps is how the upgrade policy will progress:

1. Each modification that is upgraded to IPB3 will be added to the Store in a separate IPB3 category. You'll have 3 months after IPB3 final is released to update your IPB2.3 mod to the IPB3 version for free. You'll just need to request this in your client centre, make sure you have an active subscription before doing so. If your license expired, you'll need to renew.

I've done it this way so rather than purchasing the IPB3 version of your mod at full price, you'd just need to renew your IPB2.3 subscription if it's expired at the normal discounted price and request the free update. (Before people start using this loop hole, this free grace period only applies to existing purchases, you won't be able to purchase an IPB 2.3 mod than immediately request a free upgrade to the IPB3 version of that mod.)

3. After the 3 months grace period and as IPB2.3 usage drops, prices will be reduced and new features are not likely to be added as often, but IPB2.3 will still be supported.

Frequently Asked Questions/Comments:

Will IPB3 mod prices increase?
Answer: There will be no prices rises during the grace period.

Will I be able to switch back?
Answer: No, once you take advantage of the free grace period and upgrade your subscription to IPB3, you can't downgrade.

How long before IPB3 version of my mod is released?
Answer: You can keep updated on the status of your mod here. Upgrades are still continuing during the RC's and I'm expecting to have all mods upgraded by the time IPB3 final comes out. Some of the smaller mods will be available very soon.

Will existing data be available in IPB3 mods?
Answer: Yes, mods like the Donation Tracker, Videos System, Garage System etc.. that store data will be available in the IPB3 version of your mod. The new application installer will take into account previous data when installing.

Will new mods contain new features?
Answer: Most likely not, once the compatibility upgrades are out of the way, then new features will be added to mods.

Anti-Warez Measures

As more and more IPB resources sites have introduced tougher measures to fight against warez I've noticed an increase in the number of warez users signing up here. If you use warez or are associated with warez in anyway your not welcome here.

IP.Board forum urls will now be required when signing up, I want to start off this way as to not penalize existing members who follow the law and work hard to provide themselves with IPB legally. I'll be reviewing what extra is needed in the future, whether it's the InvisionModding or InvisionTweaks model.

I apologize to the members who follow the law if this is an inconvenience to you in anyway, I've decided on this way so it doesn't require too much waiting or review. I'll leave the debates of socioeconomic status and moral issues to others.

PM Multi-Moderation Initial Release

The latest modification release is the PM Multi-Moderation.

Description: This modification allows selected groups to quickly reply to personal messages with template pm messages already set in the admin cp, instead of having to type frequently used responses yourself.

Example of Use:
For example when someone sends you a pm that should be posted in the forums, you can send a pre-defined reply with a few clicks instead of replying and typing the message yourself. You set these PM Multi-Moderation replies in the admin cp.

This is a modification that originally was only made for use on these forums but I've released it as I think this could be useful for other board owners. You can view the full feature list, screenshots and video demo here: http://www.devfuse.com/products/pm-multi-moderation/

Site and Forum Changes

The website and forums have had a few minor modifications in preparation for the IPB3 final release. These changes were made to make navigation between site and forums more easier and simpler.

Content such as the products page and client centre will still remain on the site and the forums will do what it does best with discussion based content such as news, testimonials and articles now in the forums. This offers an easier way to discuss and add new content rather than writing a system for each of these on the site. And will free up some of my time to work more on modifications rather than maintaining the sites code and content.

In these changes two new forums have been added. Company Feedback is for any feedback regarding the site, forums or modifications. Customer Testimonials has been moved from the site to the forums as an easier way for customers to add there testimonials.

When IPB3 is released and we have a default skin up and running, I'll be writing up a template based on that skin for use on the site, this will allow the products page, client centre and forums to look same throughout and utilize the same navigation. If you have any further improvements, ideas or suggestions for the site, modifications or forums, please post them in the Company Feedback forum.
